We specialize exclusively in Weed Control & Fertilization.

Discover how our 8-step program combines precise timing and expert treatments to manage weeds and keep your lawn healthy, lush, and vibrant throughout the year.

Annual Program: 8 Custom Applications Per Year

January 1 - February 14

(1) Pre- & Post-Emergent

We kick off the season with an early pre-emergent application to get ahead of warm season weeds before they germinate. We also apply a broadleaf herbicide to reduce existing weeds and set the foundation for a clean Spring.

February 15 - March 29

(2) Fertilizer

We use a premium, slow-release fertilizer coated with Polyon technology. This temperature-controlled coating prevents nutrient release in cold soil, so fertilizer is not released too early or wasted. As soil temperatures warm, nutrients are released gradually when the grass can use them.

March 30 - May 8

(3) Pre- & Post-Emergent

This treatment targets cool season broadleaf weeds still lingering from winter while laying down a pre-emergent barrier to stay ahead of crabgrass, goosegrass, and other warm season weeds as temperatures rise. We also provide early suppression of annual sedges as they begin to emerge.

May 9 - June 30

(4) Fertilizer & Pest Treatment

We apply a premium slow-release fertilizer to maintain color, density, and resilience through the Summer heat and into early Fall.

This round also includes a lawn pest treatment, applied ahead of peak pressure periods to help reduce the risk of damage from grubs, chinch bugs, and armyworms before it starts.

July 6 - August 23

(5) Post-Emergent

Summer weeds can be aggressive, so this application focuses on controlling actively growing broadleaf and grassy weeds, helping keep your lawn uniform and weed-free.

September 7 - October 18

(6) Pre-Emergent

We begin your Fall weed prevention program with a pre-emergent application targeting cool season weeds like poa annua, chickweed, and henbit before they have a chance to germinate.

October 19 - November 22

(7) Pre-Emergent

This second Fall application extends your weed prevention barrier through Winter and into early Spring. Splitting the Fall pre-emergent into two applications gives you more consistent coverage during the cool season germination window.

November 23 - December 31

(8) Limestone

We finish the season with a limestone application to balance your soil pH. Soils in our area tend to be naturally acidic and correcting pH improves nutrient availability, fertilizer efficiency, and overall turf health heading into the next growing season.

Weed Control & Fertilization 101:

Warm vs. Cool Season Weeds

Weeds behave differently depending on the time of year and the type of grass you have. Understanding which weeds appear and when allows us to schedule applications that target the right problems at the right time, keeping your lawn healthy and minimizing stress on the grass.

Warm-Season

Warm-season weeds sprout in late Winter to early Spring and thrive in hot weather but usually die off naturally when it gets cool. Applying a pre-emergent before Spring is critical to prevent pesky weeds like crabgrass from germinating. By contrast,  certain post-emergent treatments are usually unnecessary in late Summer, since weeds like crabgrass will die on their own.

Examples of warm-season weeds include:

Perennials

  • Dallisgrass
  • Nutsedge
  • Broomsedge
  • Virginia Buttonweed

Annuals

  • Crabgrass
  • Goosegrass
  • Doveweed
  • Spurge
  • Sandbur
  • Chamberbitter
  • Lespedeza

Cool-Season

Cool-season weeds like Poa Annua germinate in late Summer to early Fall and grow through Winter and early Spring. Some, like Poa Annua, have become increasingly difficult to control, which is why we use a Dual Defense split pre-emergent approach. Two carefully timed applications provide the best protection, targeting emerging seeds and preventing new growth for a healthier, weed-managed lawn.

Examples of cool-season weeds include:

Perennials

  • Dandelion
  • Clover
  • Wild Garlic/Onion

Annuals

  • Poa Annua (Annual Bluegrass)
  • Chickweed
  • Henbit
  • Deadnettle
  • Carolina Geranium
  • Buttercup
  • Stickerweed

Understanding Pre- & Post-Emergent Treatments

Think you can control weeds by pulling them? Thing Again!

Fun Fact: 1 square foot of soil just 6" deep can contain up to 13,000 seeds of weeds.

Not all weeds are created equal, and controlling them starts with understanding the difference between Pre- & Post- Emergent treatments. Pre-Emergent treatments are applied before weeds emerge. They create a barrier in the soil that stops germinating seedlings before they can establish and push through the surface, which is especially important in early Spring and late Summer when weed pressure is at its highest. Post-Emergent treatments target weeds that are already visible and actively growing, allowing us to eliminate them without disturbing the surrounding turf. Using both in a season-long program means your lawn is protected before weeds appear and treated if any manage to break through.

Fertilizer, Limestone, and Soil pH:

Building a Strong Lawn

A healthy lawn isn’t just about cutting weeds — it’s about giving grass the nutrients it needs to THRIVE. We use premium, slow-release fertilizer to provide a steady supply of nitrogen and other essential nutrients over several months. This encourages deep root growth, vibrant color, and long-term resilience.

Equally important is soil pH, which affects how well your lawn can absorb these nutrients. Soils in our area often become more acidic over time, which can reduce fertilizer effectiveness. That’s why we include a limestone application in our program. Limestone raises soil pH to the optimal range, ensuring your grass can fully utilize the nutrients we apply and maintain strong, healthy growth year-round.
